THE DISCREPANCY BETWEEN LIGHT AND DARKNESS PART I (1THESS. 5: 5-11)


You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.  For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 
Darkness though has its own usefulness, and at the creation story in Genesis chapter one darkness came before light. However, God saw that it was not very good He then called for light. Darkness wouldn’t have been able to make other things come to being. We saw that of all the creations of God, only few of them can walk conveniently in the night without aid. We could say that darkness, right from creation time had been associated with evil. Without light plants and animals and even human beings will not be able to live comfortably. The plants cannot do without the light from the sun, man needs light to be able to see and walk around. As soon as the sun (light) sets, metabolism in man stops and any cooked or processed food taken can no longer digest because the kitchen department had closed for the day. So food taken, when the light of the day as gone to rest, will surely cause trouble for the eater. This week we shall be considering a few things that darkness and night stand for in our society, we hope by the grace of God to take a look at the characteristics of children of light come next week.
NIGHT AND DARKNESS: -
1. Darkness and night symbolize ignorance of God. Those who do not have Christ are living in thick darkness. Jesus said in John chapter 8: 12 that He is the light of the world and that those who follow Him will not walk in darkness. When a Christian does not have the knowledge of the operations of God, such is in darkness. For instance, the issues of celebrating harvest thanksgiving, some who live in darkness hold the view that the Pastor just wants to collect money from them, whereas in as much as you do this wholeheartedly you will be handsomely rewarded. Another thing is the bible study that several church members do not take serious. There are several blessings for us in the scripture that only who could study will fully benefit. What about the knowledge of things about the kingdom of heaven?
2. Darkness is synonymous to wickedness. This is why the bible says that men love darkness than light (Jn. 3: 19). All manners of atrocity are widely perpetrated in the night when the perpetrator may not be seen. Most spiritual attacks are done in the night, theft cases are more in the night, fornicators and adulterers operate well under cover (darkness) so as not to be seen and many more. As long as one is a sinner, he/she has become an enemy of God and therefore a wicked person. 
3. Darkness also stands for misery. We must know that days of sorrow are days of darkness. No one will call for a day of sorrow into his/her life if the person is still sane. Those who are not in Christ are doomed already especially for the day of reckoning when all actions done in the dark will be laid bare and judgment will follow.
We wish to encourage you reader that you come out of darkness into this marvelous light which is in Christ Jesus today. You are created to be a champion and not a loser; you are born to rule your world and not a slave to anyone. Grab this opportunity now and have a good success and a blissful eternity. Wednesday: - Good Lord, please remove darkness from the minds of church members who are yet to behold, receive and utilize the Light you sent to the world IJN
Thursday: - Help me oh God to overcome all forms of wickedness in today’s world IJN
Friday: - Father in heaven, let your light so shine in Seed of Life that people may come to the brightness of your glory IJN
Saturday: - God of all nations, illuminate the minds of our leaders in Nigeria so that they may know the right path to follow as they lead IJN
