"No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead he puts it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines on you."
We must give glory to God Almighty for His love over us through this our month of illumination. He has been so merciful onto us that our paths are made known to us and we did not walk in darkness, may His name be praised forever in Jesus’ name. Today, we shall be looking at the value of the Light of God in the life of the believer. The Word of God is Jesus Christ (Jn.1:1, 14), Jesus Christ is the light of the world; whoever walks with or follows Him will not walk in darkness (Jn. 8: 12). In a certain village there was a blind man who was walking about almost unguided to every part of the village. One day a boy walked up to him and asked for the reason why the blind man was always putting on his lamb each time he walked in the night. The blind old man replied that he was doing that so that though he could not differentiate between night and day but to help him so that those with their eyes working may not push him off his track. So he was putting on the light for others to notice him. The ignorant Christian is blind and will not be able to see the various opportunities God had placed around him, he will not be aware of the things of the spirit that will aid him to make heaven.
God’s Word is a light that shines in this dark world we are in (Ps. 119: 105; Pro. 6: 20-23; Ps. 119: 130). This world is filled with deep darkness only those who have Christ, the light of the world could walk successfully without experiencing a fall. There is one error common to many church people, the fact that you associate with the church and believers does not give you inner light. You are just like the blind man going about with lighted lamb giving light to others to see but not preventing him from fall. The light of God must enter into us before it can be good to us. When we have the Light of God in us then we must take its advantage and possess a single outlook of faith. The light we have inside of us may not be good if we keep one eye on things of God and the other on the world (1Jn.2: 15-17), then the light will turn to darkness. This can happen when we mistake religious dogmatism and man-made tradition for genuine spirituality – zeal for God, but not according to knowledge (Rm. 10: 1-4).
The value of the Light of God is so great that we cannot afford to hide it from the public. The light must be presented to others who are yet to behold the light, receive it and put it to use. We hold it a duty to drag along as many as possible we encounter on our journey to the kingdom of God. We must be rest assured that as long as we have the light of God in us, everything that represents darkness can no longer survive in us, it shall be totally disgraced in Jesus’ name. Amen. Remain blessed in the Lord.
