LET LOT LEAVE (Gen. 13:14-18) by PASTOR R.O.Ogunkunle

LET LOT LEAVE (Gen. 13:14-18)
The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you."  So Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the Lord.
Lot in the literal sense means “conceal, veil or covering.” It follows therefore that when you have a ‘Lot’ with you or in your company, your glory may not shine because there is a covering already. It was Abram that God called to leave his people for another place and not Lot. For sympathy or love for family member, he decided to allow Lot to follow him. Little by little Lot was covering the glory of God in his life. It got so bad at a time that there was war between the herdsmen of both of them that they needed to part so as to avoid clash. In the mind of any right thinking person, Lot should have respected the age and contribution of his uncle Abram and allow him to choose first and then he, i.e. would take whatever was left. We saw in this chapter that he was the one who chose the better part of the land open to them. Lot was already competing with Abram almost in everything. He started covering the glory and the right of the man God had called into the ministry. He wanted to be more successful than the one who took care of him. Lot was just an extra luggage that the Lord had not commanded Abram to carry.
Let us consider some of the reasons why you, the Christian must not continue with Mr. Lot.
It was wealth and excitement that attracted him to city life. And not just any city, of course. No, he was foolish enough to choose the most depraved place around. Greed did not allow him to reason well.
If he had stayed with his uncle, he would not have caused the death of his wife. They would not have been engrossed in the depravity of the people of the land.
There was a time he was captured as a slave and his uncle Abram rose against his captor and got him released, if he was in his right sense he would not have gone back to that sinful town but the next day he was on his way back there. Abram had proved to him that he was capable of protecting him and his belonging but he would not learn.
When the city he was was destroyed, he was rescued by the angels of God, in his appreciation to God for being saved; he got drunk that he committed incest, a terrible sin before God. He slept with his own daughters and in the process they produced nations that were not loved by God.
We did not read that Lot built an altar to the Lord as we often read about Abram his uncle.
There are several things that stand for ‘Lot’ in the life of many Christians today. It could be secret sin, it could be money, it could be one tradition or culture, it could be souvenir, it could be position and to some it could be sinful objects gotten diabolically.
Please take note of these spiritual lessons from Lot;
Never "move your tents to a place near Sodom" (13:12-13). That is, don't seek the company of ungodly people (Ps 1).
When you are delivered from Sodom (14:16), don't return!
Spiritual compromise can injure your own soul (2 Peter 2:8), invite the contempt of nonbelievers (19:9), and even bring immorality (19:30-38) and death to your own family and friends (19:14, 26). He who has an ear let him hear. Remain blessed in the Lord.

DELAY IS DANGEROUS

DELAY IS DANGEROUS (Gen. 19: 15-17) With the coming of dawn, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Hurry! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away when the city is punished." When he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two daughters and led them safely out of the city, for the Lord was merciful to them. As soon as they had brought them out, one of them said, "Flee for your lives! Don't look back, and don't stop anywhere in the plain! Flee to the mountains or you will be swept away!" The Lord has instructed us that we should hold on to the Rock of Ages for there would be trouble in the world this month. One may then ask when we need to do that. The time is now because delay is dangerous. As we could see from the above passage, Lot’s wife looked back though they have been instructed not to and she perished. Not that she just looked but while others were going forward holding on to the Rock of

The 7 Characteristics Of An Eagle And Why They Are Lessons For Good Leadership

1. Eagles Have Vision If you ever happen to see an eagle sitting high above the tree or cliff of a stiff mountain, watch closely and see how attentive the bird is. The body sits still and the head will be tilted side to side to observed what is happening below, around and above it. Even if its flying close by, you can observe how keen its eyes are looking for its prey. Eagles have a keen vision. Their eyes are specially designed for long distance focus and clarity. They can spot another eagle soaring from 50 miles away. Does this characteristic ring a bell in your mind? I am sure it does. Look at great leaders of this world who have come and gone. There are many great leaders that came and went but one characteristic that is common in all is "Vision". Vision is a successful leadership characteristic Take Abraham Lincoln for example. Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, guided his country through the most devastating experience in its national h
